100 and 102-year-old couple falls in love in nursing home, ties the knot

The couple meets falls in love, and a few months later, they come to court and tie the knot.

It’s a familiar story – except, in this case, we’re not talking about a couple of young star eyes. Instead, it’s two seniors over 100 years old.

John and Phyllis Cook are residents of Kingston Residence, a senior care center in Sylvania, Ohio. Only a floor apart from their apartment, they found each other and made a strong connection.

“Tell you the truth, we fell in love with each other,” Phyllis, who turns 103 this summer, told WNWO. “I know you think it’s a little distant to someone our age, but we loved each other.”

“Well, we fit in a lot of ways, and we’re enjoying each other’s company,” said John, a 100-year-old WWII veteran. They were both widows, and each had been married twice before.

But their quality time goes beyond playing Bingo. When asked what their favorite activity to do together was, John replied: “Well, I shouldn’t talk about it often.”

However, Phyllis was more honest:

“He’s not sexually dead completely, and neither am I!” Phyllis told KHOU 11. But she had her morals to consider: “I do not believe in jumping into bed like a Christian unless you are married.”

So John agreed to make her an honest woman, and they went to court for a marriage certificate.

Little did they know that they were leaving court as husband and wife.

“It’s not the plan, but we came here, and they said we could marry you here,” John told WNWO.

He could not wait for the marriage to begin, obviously: “I said, ‘Well, we’ll end it.”

The couple can happily wait years. Despite their age, they may have some good genes: Phyllis’ mother lived 106 years old.
